Nutrition: an inconvenient inconvenience

I have come to the conclusion that Wogging alone is not going to get me to my goals. I am going to have eat healthier as well. I knew it would come to this, but I was hoping I could avoid it. See the problem is I really like to eat. In fact, I have Man Vs. Food on while I am writing this, making a mental list of places to go eat four pound sandwiches.

Dinner tonight was a cheese pizza from Dominoes. It was supposed to be a pepperoni pizza but that is the topic for a "Why I try not to eat Dominoes" blog. So why Dominoes? Well we are in San Antonio for a little vacation at Sea World and after 10 hours at the park we were too tired to go out so we ordered in. Makes sense right? But there is a larger lesson here. Eating healthy requires a little forethought in this country. Maybe it requires it in other countries as well but I don't have major international traveling experience. So I can only tell you what it's like here. But it seems like Europe, Asia, Australia eats better than us.

Ok, let me get back to my point. I need to reduce my calories. There are lots of diets out there but at the end of the day, everything I have read says if you want to lose weight you need to burn more calories than you consume. But if you find yourself needing to grab something quick, this is not going to happen.

Everyone wants to pick on McDonalds but really I think the problem is greater than them. It is a problem of lifestyle. If we don't set something out in the morning to thaw or forget to plan out dinner we have a tendency to just "pick something up" and we all know what that means. Fattening food. Sure, there may be some exceptions here and there but for the most part the USA makes it difficult to eat healthy when you are in a hurry or have not planned anything in advance.

So what I am realizing is that Wogging is more than something more than just something to do. It is going to need to be a change in the way I approach life. Which will be good, but it not going to be easy. It means that even on those days when I come home so tired all I want to do just order a pizza or eat some processed food, I am going to have to stay the course and eat something healthy. Dammit.

And we won't even talk about my wife taking a pic of me not eating a cookie.

  1. Very insightful and essential. If you make the time, you will eat healthier. I know. I've been there and need to get back. I'm rooting for you!

Failing to plan is planning to fail.
