Failure Apparently Is an Option

So things did not go well this week with training. The only positive is that the Patented Wogger’s World 10-Week Plan to do a Half Marathon (that I stole from Runner’s World) is being implemented when I am more than 10 weeks away from D-Day: San Antonio Rock-n-Roll Marathon, ½ Marathon on November 13.
As you may recall, last week I said I would do 3 miles on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and 5 miles on Sunday. This is Week 1 of the Patented Wogger’s World 10-Week Plan to do a Half Marathon (herein know as The Plan). And to paraphrase Michael Scott from The Office “I am screwed people.”
Tuesday I did 2 miles. Ok, fine. First day exercising in a while but I broke a good sweat. I’ve got a cushion built in on the time frame. Thursday:  1.65 miles on the treadmill. Oh no! I’m running (wogging) backwards. But this is not even where the real problem lies. My real problems came with the weekend.
Saturday. Saturday was a day of ups and downs. We had a garage sale Saturday morning. Let me state in no uncertain terms: I hate having garage sales. I don’t like getting rid of my stuff. I don’t like being hot. I don’t like all the traffic it causes on my street. But we had one nonetheless. And actually we made more money by far than we have even made before. So that was good. And then we took all our crap hidden treasures that had not sold to Northwest Area Ministries resale shop. Ok, so far not so bad. I’m hot but we made some money and cleared out some space. We eat lunch at Sweet Tomatoes (see how healthy that is) and then my wife and I decide to go look at cars.
As my Facebook followers know, her car died a while ago and so we needed to buy one. We’ve been doing all this research and had narrowed it down to a few different choices. So we decided to go test-driving. To make a long story short, we leave around 4 p.m. and test drive 4 cars at three different dealerships. The upside is we have joined the cult know as Subaru owners. The downside is we were roasted in 100 degree heat while shopping and got home exhausted at 10:00 that night. Ergo, no Saturday workout.
Fine. I can make up for it Sunday. Right? Wrong. I don’t know what happened on Sunday. I just could not get my fat, avocado-shaped ass into workout clothes. I have no elaborate “See, it’s not my fault” story like I do for Saturday. I just didn’t have it in me. On a side note, I had intended to include a picture of me working out this week. Here is the only action shot I have from the weekend exercise routine:

So while Week 1 may have been a failure in the short-term, the good news is I will not be daunted by this setback. I will try to follow Week 1 of The Plan again this week. Even if I don’t follow it properly, I am on the right path. And I did probably sweat out a good 10 pounds on Saturday between the garage sale and the walking around the car lots. So don’t give up on  me fellow Woggers. I WILL be a lean(er) mean (gentle) running (wogging) machine come November.

I will see you all on Thursday for an update. My post may be a little late. Me and the family are going to Sea World in San Antonio Tuesday and Wednesday. So have a wonderful week and remember; It’s a Wogger’s World out there.

  1. Dude, it is obvious that you needed Sunday to recover from Saturday! You did a week's worth of work that day! I mean, a GARAGE SALE? Even if you only go until noon that is a whole day, especially in this heat. THEN you went CAR SHOPPING??? And not one, not two, but THREE dealerships? That takes, like, a whole weekend!

No wonder Sunday was a no go.

  2. It's okay to stray from the training plan. You still got in two good workouts! Don't beat yourself up over it.
