Anyway, when I was writing last Monday's edition last Sunday Night I was unemployed. By the time you were reading it Monday morning I was employed. You were reading it Monday morning right? So if you read Thursday's post you know it was a hectic week for me which meant several things. One of those things is I only worked out once. I did do pretty well with the new plan of supplements and eating three small meals a day with a glass of the grass clipping drink in between breakfast and lunch and one in between lunch and dinner. I have felt better, more energy, less headaches, no tired drop in the afternoons.
So aside from new job that I really like, I met some runners at work. One wants to do a half and one has already done one. So that exciting. And the Rock-N-Roll San Antonio Marathon and 1/2 Marathon has published the course and elevations for this year. This is exciting because I am considering setting up an illegal gambling ring to bet on which water station will I cower up and die. I would set the over/under at 8 1/2.
So here is the course:

Christina and I will be Wogging the purple path while my Wogging Partner in Crime Tricia will Wog both colors to complete her full marathon.
While it is exciting to get the course, I was not excited to see the elevation changes. You can click here to see the one for the half:

See the problem for me here, other than I am fat and out of shape is the Houston, where I train and live, is FLAT. Flat, flat flat. Other than on overpass or a bridge, we don't have hills. I have lived 90% of my life either in Houston or Kansas. Running up things is not in my DNA. Last year I remember the course being pretty flat except for this cruel, mean-spirited, long steep rise at the end. THE END! ARE YOU KIDDING ME! But at least it was only one rise. But have you looked at the course elevation for the 1/2? It's been awhile since I was in scouts (actually i was only ever a Cub Scout so lets not get the wrong picture here) and had to do map reading. So I could be wrong, but that sure as hell looks like a hill to me, right there between miles 5 and 6. And when I find the person responsible for this ... this... travesty, oh there will be hell to pay. Oh yes.
I am a flat-earther when it comes to Wogging. I don't want to confuse myself with those religious freaks who think Columbus tricked us. Apparently they too call themselves Flat-earthers. No, no. I just want my Wogging area to be smooth and flat. Is that too much to ask? Apparently.
Ok, Woggers. I need some help. Click on an ad from time to time, it will help finance some running fees. Also, Tricia, text me on Tuesdays and Thursdays and remind me to run. Coffey, you FB me on Saturdays and Sundays. And feel free to talk amongst yourselves in the comment section. Also let me know if you think there is anyway I can make Wogger's World better. Because it's not just I who dwells here, but it's a place for everyone. See you on Thursday Woggers!
I forget how flat Houston is until I go elsewhere and don't...set...the...brake. How are you planning to compensate when you practice?
ReplyDeleteA good question Coffey. The Old Dan would have said he would compensate with a cold one. The New Dan will probably mix in one workout a week adding to the elevation on the treadmill. I will probably start this at the 10-week out mark. I may even mix in the odd stairmaster. Ugh. In reality as a Wogger it's not like I'm going to be using my uphill speedwork to pass the competition.
